Approach from Hwy.89 into the town of Church Wells.
Go straight through the town, then turn right on the Gravel Road,
later in a left turn slightly downhill to the trailhead at the pond,
located on the right side of the road.
This sand road is also passable by 2WD or RV.
From the TH you go through the fence,
which can be opened in one corner
and then go about 1.8 km up the wash (Rainbow Valley).
There you turn right up to the grassy plain
and then cheerfully towards P7.
If you miss the turnoff, you will come to a dam shortly after.
Then you just go back the 100m.

From there you can somehow go back to the height (P7),
either steep ascent to the grassy plain,
or leisurely up through the canyon.
The whole hike is 7 mi long and takes about 5 hrs.
plus breaks and photo time.
There are about 1000 ft of elevation to overcome.
It is warm in the canyon - take enough water with you!
I strongly recommend to go from P7
back to the car the same way as on the way there!
The canyon down there looks passable at the beginning,
but it changes after 1000 ft
You get into a tangle of narrow canyons and high dryfalls.
The search for a way and the climbing cost a lot of
time and energy - I tried it - it was cruel!
By the way:
who still has energy reserves, climbs up the east side of the
Sidestep and walk the 2500 ft across to the
to the Wahweap Hoodoos.
